    Mercury 175 starts and stalls

1998 mercury 175hp Xr2 sportjet starts and stalls

I am trying to run my power head on my work bench, the stator, trigger, rectifier and switch boxes have been replaced, the electric fuel pump and pulse fuel pump are good. The motor starts when I spray fuel into the carbs but oily runs for a couple seconds- any ideas..?

Also how do I set timing and are there any adjustments to the Arm that the trigger is attached to?Click image for larger version.

ID:	484413Carbs are clean, not sure about the enricher, I think the timing needs setting is there a way to set the .462 without the dial indicator? When I check the cranking timing i am to the right of zero around 16

If it runs when you spray fuel in then obviously the timing is close enough for it to run... you need to figure out why it's not getting any fuel first.

open up your carb drains and see if there is any fuel in them

A properly working enricher goes a long way to starting a cold engine.

To check the enricher, turn the ignition on, engage it (usually this means push the key in), and it should make a slight clicking sound and fuel should come out of the bottom hose from it.

Glastron - I have the powerhead on my work bench (no key switch) using remote starter off solenoid.
Q: in the manual it says to adjust the screw in yellow for full throttle stop is that correct , or should it be the one circle in red that one closed the gap between b and C Click image for larger version.

The Maximum Timing Adjustment also calls this screw (b) (Same as Above) to be adjusted to obtain 22btdc, I am getting 16 Atdc. Click image for larger version.

When installing stator is it possible a screw too long was put in a spot that would limit trigger travel?
