I gave it a crack with the derakane and a piece of 2" abs plastic pipe with a notch cut in it. I did not sand or prep the ABS in any way I just gave it a quick wipe with acetone because it was handy. This is how the pipe looked before glass

I had very little resin left to do this properly and it was starting to kick. Less than ideal but good enough for a quick test. Heres a piece of CSM laid over the abs and the notch

I let it cure about 16hrs and tried to pry it off in the notch using a screw driver first. I was really trying to get the glass to lift but I broke through the glass before I could get far. It had a much stronger bond than I thought it would.

Then I grabbed the one side by hand to see if I could roll it off and the glass tore off the ABS but the bond remained strong especially where I had it wetter.

Then I flipped it over to the other side which was all lipped and I clamped that in my 6" vise to see if I could unravel it. 4' piece of ABS and Im 260lb and I was trying. It would not fully let go of the ABS.

This is how the piece looks from the top after all the tests. Still bonded in the middle where it was the wettest. Im sure with some sanding prep and wetting out as Xstream said this would bond extremely strong

This stuff really looks great and it is made by a big time chemical company with a good reputation. I just saw the “ester” in its name and not being familiar with it thought it might be a one part polyester resin. I was told by the manufacturer that a polyester resin will not work. But this is a special formulation Epoxy. If I can not get my hands on a low viscosity Methyl Methacrylate(MMA) Resin this might be a great alternative. With the right surface prep like Xtreme said, this might work extremely well. If my leads on the MMA Resin do not pan out I am going to contact Dow and see what they say about ABS Thermoform Plastic. It has been two months trying to find the MMA Resin since I busted the boat and now the keel repair the previous owner did is leaking and getting ready to give way so I have been relying on not one but TWO Flex Tape Patches. Holding up pretty well actually after what I put them through.
