Can you lay more glass over half cured glass?

what I mean is if we push hard to layup lots of glass in one day we could be laying wet glass over half cured or layers that are going to kick before ones we lay on top etc. Is there any advice here on when to stop adding layers?

No problem with what you want to do except heat buildup. As long as it does not get too hot. One layer firing off under another can accelerate the cure from heat. IR gun works good here as a gauge. Or just put your hand on it.

Makes perfect sense thanks. I have a good sized crew to help but we only have days here and there to get at this. Trying to plan ahead.

mostly for this concern I would like to put the patches required down and then we are laying 1708 over the entire inside of the hull and I wanted to make sure I didn’t have to worry about curing the patchwork entirely first. More than likely these patches will be cured before we lay the big glass sheets down anyways but it was a thought so I asked. Thanks

Lake, when them patch areas start to kick it's going to make that next layup fry, go to a frp dealer and get 730 harderner, they always give people 925 hardner which is what you need for gelcoat to cure right, with 730 at around 40cc per gallon you'll have about 90 mins before gel, ofcourse temp/weather will vary gel times, but it is the only way to layup a hull without cooking the glass, John

lake, i just read your build , didnt realize you were talking vinyl and not a iso resin which would use a mekp hardner , not enough handling of vinyl to help you, i'd let the patch kick, scuff and then start fresh with the 1708,John

Appreciate the input thanks. We will likely do just that. Patch and repairs until pleased with them and then lay the 1708 over all in biggest sheets possible.

All I can offer to this thread is if your using vinylester this process, is weird and best avoided. Let the first layer kick and then add the second. I had some strange events happen trying to lay a second layer over half cured ( about an hour ) previously laid glass. Wait a couple hours and no issue at all but in that grey area in between it was pulling the second layer around during cure creating large voids. I pulled the layer off, tossed it out and started fresh once the first layer cured.
