OMC cowling compatibility-swapping and fitting others

    Hello,

Strange question but I have a mid 1990s 1.6 liter 90hp Crossflow. Will a similar year 150/175hp 2.6 liter Crossflow cowling fit on the engines and work?

Similar note, If I had a 2.0 liter 140hp looper, can I put a V8 looper cowling on that engine for grins?

I know the 2.0 liter and 3.0 liter pans are the same as I have seen a rope start 2.0 liter and the cowling is really a 3.0 liter with a hole for the rope starter.

    Thank you for your time.

I have a 235 crossflow hood and it will not fit my 200 looper.Won't fit down over the powerhead. The guy I got the looper from tried going the other way and said it wouldn't work either.
If I knew it was going to last this long I would have taken better care of it.

I wonder if that 235 crossflow hood would fit on 115hp crossflow. That is what I am trying to figure out.

The pans are different? Same with loopers? I know a 3.0 looper fits a 2.0 looper. I theorize a 4.0 looper will as well.

The c/f hood and pan from a v-6 will fit the 90hp c/f motor but you cannot mix and match hoods and pans.

I dont think the late 70's crossflow v4's cowl/pans would mix/match either. I was thinking I could do it with my 78 140 motor, and the pan is different. So, I think the crossflows were using the same pan in the 80's after a certain year? Maybe when the evinrude v4 cowl changed from the 70's look to the one that lasted from the 80's till it was retired.......

Interesting. I always theorized the V4 1.6 liter crossflows from mid 70s to late 1990s use the same pan and were interchangable.

I only found out recently(last summer) when I picked up a 78 140 motor. I also took back an 88 v4 too. The two belly pans are not the same. I dont know exactly when they changed it(since evinrude had different part numbers for the same part), but my guess is when the v4 cowling changed looks in the early 80's.

If I hadnt trashed the 140 belly pan, I would post the pictures to show it. But I had to cut that pan in pieces to remove the block...OLD and STUCK
