New to the forum. Need help

Hey guys, semi old guy here. Havent had a boat that did over 65 in probably 25yrs. To give you an idea, the last time I had serious work done to an outboard it was done by Diamond Marine....when they were still located in Farmingdale Long Island!! Not only have they moved to Florida, but they retired.

Im in the market again for a small go fast. More of a sunday driver or when the bay is flat. Pretty much everything I look at has older merc v6’s, which is what I want. Im seeing alot of frankensteins, which is to be expected after all these years. Front half of this bolted to other half of something else. Thats all fine and good if you know who did the work and they can fix it when it gets sick. Im gonna need someone to check something out before I buy and say yeah, I can work with this and keep it going til you blow it up. Take any recommendations.

Im located south shore of Long island. Western Suffolk. Lots of great info on these boards. Ive enjoyed reading the threads. Thank you in advance.

Wow.......25 years. Might be you can find a good used boat in the boats for sale here. Should be lots of guys still around in NY. Did you hang out at the OBI in the dazzs? What kind of boat did you have?

I had a few. Hydrostream,Velocity, Superboat and challenger. Had a bunch of copies too. There was a guy up here years and years ago that was popping out donzi and cigarette hulls. The clammers all used the copies with homemade center console and v6 on the back. Alot easier then to get a beater that did 70. or maybe its just my rose colored memory.

Yeah I did the OBI. I had a new Hydrostream that I had bought from Teddy Bravo at muscle boats. I did OBI alot w that boat byt preferred FI.

yeah! Im looking to have some ME fun! Sold my 34 Silverton last year. Had that boat for 18 years along with a crap load of skiffs. Daughter is older and time on big boat was getting cut short for practices, her life etc. Picked up a 25’ center console for family boating. I just want something to cruise around in if weather is right.

Still plenty of guys young and old on the south shore that could help you out. Frank Mole, Tony Ledo (tux974), or Ed Perso (16ft superboat) would be good people to start with. They should be able to point you to what's around, what's good and bad, etc.

Mario at Island Performance Marine too...he has been super helpful to me. And Bob Garone. Not too much info on either of them, but they are very knowledgeable when you get a hold of them...
