Caught by Fishy Smell... catch & release the under-size our future breeding stock.

“Anything over 100 is a felony,” said FWC Officer Bobby Dube. “It’s a great bust. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen numbers like that.”
Hernandez and Medina Martin were taken to the county jail on Stock Island.

On Friday, Hernandez remained in jail on a $30,000 bond while Medina Martin was locked up on a $75,000 bond, according to jail records.

At about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped a white commercial van at mile marker 37 on U.S. 1 near Bahia Honda State Park for speeding, following too closely and failure to yield the right of way.

The deputy could smell fish as he approached the van, which Hernandez was driving, and called FWC for backup, the sheriff’s office said.

Speeding is why they got pulled over, and with contraband too.

Some guys are just destined to be apprehended.

We do have a choice. New research by scientists and economists from the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB), Environmental Defense Fund, and the University of Washington on The Potential for Global Fish Recovery: How Effective Fisheries Management Can Increase Abundance, Yield and Value shows there are substantial benefits to be gained if we manage our fisheries more sustainably, including higher profits, more fish to feed the world, and more fish in the sea.

Approximately 76 percent of the world’s fish stocks have already been taken to their limits. Clearly, business as usual is not going to get us where we need to go.

So do they go to a homeless shelter or something? Hate to see all that go to waste. I've seen Alaska take poached game to shelters.

When I was a kid, we would be in the keys every weekend, a lot of the time in Elliott Key. I remember being able to jump in just about anywhere and grab good sized lobster for dinner and throw a line in and get good size fish..... then the Mariel boatlift came along and the Cubans came and over-fished. They would have fish fry's down there with anything they could catch...... big fish fry's........... Soon, all you could catch was 3" grunts and 6" O.A.L. lobster if you could find any. All the Hernadezes and Medinas are still doing whatever they can to skirt the law...................
