    hydrostream vector

Hello everybody, i just bought my first "fast" boat a 1982 Hydrostream vector. it has a stock mercury 150 black max. It has no jack plate at the moment, i was wondering Whats a good setback for a vector? And manual vs hydraulic jack plate. Whats best for a bobs nose cone single vs dual hose, inline single or dual hose? what the difference? Thank you for any help and godbless

Congrats! One heckova nice boat. Hyd jack gives more options for use. 6'' or less setback. Skiing and cruising with friends, or all out performance. Set back is not needed for a Vector IMO. A LWP is not needed for less than 80 mph either IMO. The dual hose was intended for the bigger engines like the 3.0 mercs. A single hose bobs will be fine if you want one just cause....

Is there a fuel tank mounted in the bow? Looks like a filler pretty far forward.

Transom and floors are solid. Was pushing and tapping on core in bilge pump well sounds and feels solid. Tap on rest of bottom sounded good

Probably going to want to move that tank to the stern if you want to make it fly. The dynamic load of fuel (gets lighter as you use it) will affect the set up much more if thats in the bow vs the stern.

Going to beat a dead horse here, but if the core hasn't been replaced it needs to be replaced. A drill is the only true test.

I want to keep back seat on it. Would a hydraulic jack plate work better for changing setup as it uses gas. I dont care if it loses a couple of mph.

Inspect the core or have it inspected. Take a look down the bilge hole with a bright flashlight. Anything black or brown? Not so good. If that checks out just get some seat time in it as is before you start modifying things. Lots of learning with how these hulls handle.

With the right tank you'll be able to keep your rear seat and still run a tank aft. These boats had a rear tank and bench when new. Unless it's old enough to have back to back seats.
