Guys, look at what the Water Ski Jumpers use.
My Helmut has American Football Chin Straps that go to press studs
If the Helmut buckets for any reason, it just gets taken off your head by the water force and the chin straps just pops free

So is the consensus that either no helmet of an open face helmet with the harness/straps? (for an open cockpit, recreational speed)

I've been told that some cut the strap where it mounts so you can't see the damage as a precaution, I like the ski jumper idea got any links?

Yeah, the ski jumpers was interesting but I want examples...which is really why I asked this question in the beginning. I don't know anyone who has first hand experience with this stuff, and I've never watched someones neck snap in the water. A pic, link or even the material of the ski jump one would be nice.
As my condition sets forth, I want something that's not intrusive to my vision/moment (don't we all), I definitely don't want something that would increase my chance of injury during ejection, and I would like to have my head protected from hitting hard things, like the engine and/or the side of the boat.
I did gymnastics for years so I know how to tuck myself if I got thrown out...my main concern is what is in my path of travel between the driver's seat and the water...

I'm not understanding the cut strap deal. You mean they ditch the strap so its not strapped on and just rely on a snug fit? Is that so it will fall off when its skimmed along the water and not take your head with it?
And is the point of cutting the strap where it mounts to still try to pass some inspection so it doesn't look like its damaged? I dont get the not seeing damage part.

No one inspects ...
The idea is save the neck just saying you don't want to be obvious
In my skiing days I had lots of high speed falls You have to enjoy the ride, I lost a wedding ring 20 years ago the water pressure ripped it off.
These look like quality

You either go full board or not. If I was wearing a helmet without restraints, it would be tight fitting and not much holding it on my head. AKA no straps!

From someone who has come out several times, you come out in whatever convoluted configuration the physics gods can dream up on short notice. Look at the pics of drivers getting ejected. No one looks graceful
I agree with your path of travel. My race boats were rigged with the shifter, switch panel, set on the left side of the driver, for that reason.18 Talon/2.4 carb SOLD
