Lighting for backlit switchpanel labels
Wow not many electrical questions on here.
Anyway, i am designing a switchpanel with etched logo and labels for the switches.
The panel itself is black and the labels and logo are transparent. Now i want to backlit them with a blue light. My question: how do i properly create a backlight
Newwiremarine is doing something similair with their panels, but i cant image that they just glue a ledstrip to the back of the panel? Do they use some kind of led modules?

I used luminescent panels I bought off eBay. They are about 0.015” thick and have a box that drives a frequency through the panel to light it. They come in many colors.
They are trimmable, but not on the copper conductors, so you have to plan your orientation so you can achieve your goal.
For cost reasons I chose to use multiple smaller panels, but you could use one large one. I’m curious to see if the custom dash people have custom panels made for each dash.
You can see I used four panels and spliced accordingly. The pictures of the dash lit with no steering wheel installed was at the end of my 72 hour continuous endurance run. Instead of using 4 transformers, I used one to run all 4 panels and I wanted to ensure that I didn’t overload anything. It’ll never be left on continuous for more than 12 hours, and usually not more than a couple.
Good luck with your project, I really like mine.A problem is only a problem when viewed as a problem...

Thanks for the reply! Awesome job, looks really sleek. So there are 2 panels mounten on top of eachoter?
But unfortunatly not really what im looking for. I really like the newwwiremarine backlit logo's but im in the netherlands so thats the reason i wont order there. I am very curious about their backlight source
