'87 2.4L CARB to EFI conversion?

I have complete Laser EFI system from a '98 200HP. I just had a guy ask me a question that I don't have the answer to and hoping you guys do. The guy has an '87 2.4L and is wanting to convert it to EFI if its possible. Would a 2.5L Laser setup bolt on? In my mind the only thing keeping it from working would be the reed plate but I'm not entirely sure. I definitely don't want to sell it to him if it wont work. Your experience is much appreciated!

Vertical reeds = NOPE, horizontal reeds = MAYBE but only after slotting the holes in the 2.5 plate to bolt to the 2.4 front half. But i really dont know. The archived thread that i got that info from had nothing to do with an EFI conversion. It was more focused on powerhead swapping so hopefully someone can provide a definite answer.

Bolting it on is one thing, getting it to run right is another. Things to find out:
-The ECU (fuel curve)" must be different; fuel curve mirrors the torque curve on most engines and the 2.4L & 2.5L are different?
-Ignition timing curve is probably different too but the knock sensor might keep you out of trouble?
-The 9-amp or 16-amp 2.4L carb charging system might not be adequate to run the EFI and electric fuel pump?
There are people here who work on these all the time that will know the answers.

Interesting subject. I would call someone like Jay Smith who can probably tell you exactly what will or won't work then post here so we will all know.

I know there is a difference cuz the 2.4 laser ecu has 2.4 cast into the front of it. Was told years ago the 2.4 will not work correctly on a 2.5 so my best guess is he above info is correct. I think Tony Brucato could answer your question.

Slotting the mounting holes on the center intake bolts will allow it to bolt up.Injectors are the same, but the 2.5 ECU will not run properly...Need a 220 2.4 Laser ECU.The 87 2.4 should have a 16 amp stator, adequate to run the efi system...

Thanks Chris! I think everyone thats commented has given me enough info to tell the guy it wouldnt be an easy enough retrofit to make it worth his money.
