    New 4.6l v8 Mercury's on a hydrostream

I'm considering the new mercury 250r as a repower on my hydrostream vegas xt which was previously powered by a v8 Evinrude. I dont see that the weight would be an issue as the evirude was a bit heavier. I'm wondering if anyone has done this before and how you like it.

What speed do you expect? Does the 250r come with the HDSM?

The 5.44 HD lower unit hits a wall around 80 I am told. You might verify you can get the HDSM.

How fast was the 250/Vegas? What kind of prop did it need? Any porpoising? Did the back float low? Setback?

How does it run? Does it handle the weight well?

It's bumping 90, prop was a 26" Hydomotive quad 4. Hydomotive is located in our town, they came out to a local lake with a props and we did some testing.

This Vegas is very heavy, bottom was rebuilt 10 years ago and recently did a splash well delete.
You can power through the porpoising, its not bad when you figure out how to drive it.
It sits almost as low as the V8 Johnson in the water.

If you look close you can see the splashwell delete

Mine has a splash well delete And was redone with composite core and heavy duty stringers to handle the v8

But ...I... would not wait to buy one that is used 5 years from now to save some$$$$...I think the motor will not fair well in the long run.......JMO. Time will tell..........

Wow Cool! It's even got a Jack plate! Wonder if some weight up front will work...if you haven't done that already. Thanks for sharing your results. Amazing
