I have had decent luck with the autometer also. Not a tough as the old merc stuff though. 12 pole is correct.

...had two brand new calibrated decatur radar guns at one time. you name the brand & type marine speedo, liquid, dry, all different diameter sized heads, all different hose size hoses & connections, ten different stainless pitot designs, lengths, etc... all expensive brand new stuff. tested about a hundred of them. they were ALL OFF the mark by one to four miles per hour. average was 1-3 mph off...every single speedo. the least expensive, with its little plastic pop-up pitot, was the most accurate, gauge after gauge after gauge, was the mercury quicksilver...which was 99 percent of the time, right on the money. again...weird, right? for the record, these were on new boat builds that went 65 to 80 plus mph.
