    Batteries

What brand and size batteries do you run and how do they hold up? Looking to replace the 2 in my boat this season. Checkmate Center console 25 feet with a 300xs.

A friend of mine who owns a boat rental operation in Daytona put me on to Duracell batteries at Sams Club. He has 35 boats in their fleet and its all he uses now (cut his replacements in half from when he was using *****state). I put a set of them in my Toon when we rigged it and they have been great at $69 ea. I figured there was nothing to lose.

I have the Blue AGM OPTIMA in the STV, been there since the boat was new in 2010. I trickle charge it when not in use.

Like the oil threads lol... Battery life depends a lot being kept in a fully charged state. If you make sure your battery switch is off and they are charged when its parked it will help tremendously on your Batteries life no matter the brand. I was told Deka and Duracell are made by the same Company.

Interesting, same site says interstate is made by johnson controls and they make tons of commercial sealed agm batteries. I typically don't buy the expensive batteries like optima but i did buy an XS Batteries 14V AGM not too many 14/16V bats to choose from but its a really nice looking battery with a sturdy case,

Duracell's are a east penn battery co product. AKA Deka batteries. They bank on the duracell name recognition, but are imo good batteries.

I also take mine out of the STV during the winter as my garage isn't heated and place it on the trickle charger in the cellar on a board, stays about 65F.
I level the trailer and trim the motor down to make sure all the water has drained out, then pull the battery. Also spin the prop shaft a few times during the off season by hand.

Johnson controls makes a good battery as well.................The have been used in UPS systems for many many years.......thay are very durable. Walmart batteries are made by them. But like someone posted, they must be maintained..........that is the biggest factor to battery life.

My red top Optima is slightly over 1 year old and even if you charge it, the voltage will drop to 12.3V after 1 hour closer to 12.1 V after a week. My friend has the same battery in his 300R as I do and his does the same thing. I plan to return mine for a replacement since it won't hold a charge. I even got a new AGM charger figuring mine was not good but still the same results.
