    Merc electric oil pump

    2003 250HP 3.0 EFI, downdraft
i have 12 volts at the oil pump when keyed on, confirmed that oil is present in the inlet side of the pump, but no oil coming out. How does the computer adjust the oil mix while running, as there are only two wires going to pump?

Controls it from ground side? Varies with rpm and load? You can verify pump operation with a ddt or put the engine into "prime" and break-in mode using the shifter.

Its a solenoid type pump don't hold the ground to the case to see if it pumps... The ecu only gives momentary pulses to ground to control the oil flow. If the pump is oily and appears to be leaking out the sides at the split line its no good it will draw air in and not pump the proper amount of oil.

so an update on this. The oil pump is working as it should. I had premix in the tank already so i ran the engine on muffs while leaving the line from the pump in a clear bottle to observe it pumping. I have currently bypassed (its running in a "loop") the oil injection due to a leaking on-board reservoir tank. I have also discovered my 1999 cowlings will not fit the downdraft powerhead(another example of happens when you assume things!) So now i'm on a search for cowlings before i can even run this set up!
