    Spark plug leads

    Hello fella's
what type of sopark plug leads do you recommend for a 3 cyl 56 evinrude ..
I can get either copper core with pvc coating or carb coated with silicone. I am thinking 8mm with nice new rubber boots too.
want something a bit colourful but need to know what's best to get.
mine are now 25 year old so about time some new leads were put on before they go bad .

any thoughts on whats best with its cdi ignition system

They are steel wire I doubt they will go bad. What goes bad is if they leak from a gouge or the ends don't make good contact or corrosion, in that case you just take them apart and fix them. Mine are 43 years old and no problem. Their is a reason the factory went with what they did, I would not change from that.

ok i get what you are saying to a point, but steel wire is not as good a conductor as copper as far as i know (could be wrong) .
and leads do go a bit bad due to rubber degradation over the years...

omc were not know for using everything of great quality as they just like most manufacturers will get away with anything cheap if they can.
its why loads of parts get changed for the better by owners of motors over the years..

Taylor, moroso, accel all have 8mm solid core wire 0 ohms per foot in many colors that will work as original, you will have to buy the boots and make them up. The modern spiral wound supression wire works fine too but make sure its low ohm. If you want to see if your wire insulation is any good crank it up at nite you will see the leaks. The omc stuff seems to last well... most of the old motors i work on still have original wires. Cowling latches and people pulling the boots with pliers is what causes problems
