Mercury 2.4L 200HP engine details:
This engine originally had a lower unit with a low water pick-up. The engine sucked up sand, plugged the bottom water jackets on the block and overheated. It was not at high speed nor was the engine completely locked up. Cylinder bores #5 & #6 on the bottom were scored. It's a freshwater motor from WI so no salt water corrosion to the internals. The water cooled voltage regulator had only a few hours of run time when I overheated the engine so it’s like new. That part alone is worth almost half of what I’m asking for the powerhead & mid-section. The stamping on top of the carbs looks like 157-155 if that makes sense to anyone in the know on Mercury carbs. The bucket style cowling is in great condition. It’s missing a plastic cover that goes over the lower front latch but functions fine without it. It has additional blue pin stripe added that matched the boat but can be removed easily (non-painted). I’m including a new- in-the-package Mercury plug wire to go with the engine.
The motor appears to be stock and never rebuilt in the past. At a minimum, it will need 2 or 3 steel sleeves, pistons and one or both heads replaced. Pictures show scoring to the cylinder walls and head domes on 5 & 6. My plans were to re-sleeve all six cylinders, install a different set of heads and have fun…but my boating plans have changed and I no longer have a use for this motor. Once rebuilt this should make a nice 200HP for a good price…or use it for parts. The outboard is bolted to a factory wooden Mercury outboard pallet and can be shipped via freight at buyer’s expense. The motor is currently located in central WI. I can meet within a 2 hour radius to help with delivery if needed.

nice clean motor, but 3 sleeves yikes! thats over $1000 in machine work alone. is it standard bore? hard to see but scoring looks like it would clean up nice with .030'' over? or are there deep gouges we cant see?
