    23 eliminator Daytona porpoise

have a 86 23ft daytona with twin 225 promaxs .. 28 choppers on sportmaster straight skegs.. lh motor on port side..starboard side is rh motor.. motors are level with lowest edge of outside sponsons.. but at around 60 to 80 the porpoise is pretty bad .. i haven't drove it much to try fixing it wondering if trim up or down is better ... i did try neutral trim and motors tuck all way down made no difference.. wondering if maybe trim tab on the center pod would help.. like a fixed adjustment..didnt get it over 80 mph because was hoping so bad ... All cats hop in the transition zone. I'm not a fan of tabs on Cats. I would try some different props. Choppers have alot of bow lift, I would look for a set of cleavers. And perhaps look at weight distribution, moving things around can make a big difference.

Yea i didnt think about the choppers being bow lift need some stern lift would probally help the air staying fully under it

You need to talk to Hydroskreamin and or Engineer Mike. They both have 23s running over 100 with single motors.

I am very familiar with setup on that boat. Helped another owner with his. The choppers SUCK on that boat. Almost could not drive it with the hop. Get a set of Merc 3 blade cleavers 14.5 diameter 28 or maybe 30 pitch. Boat was a dream to drive after that.

I noticed you said motors are level with the bottom of the boat. I assume you mean the center of the prop shaft is level with the bottom at neutral trim. That might be a little low, as it will drag the lowers and also contribute to your porpoise. Try the props first and if you still have some hop try slowly raising the engine height to find the sweet spot. When I test I go up 1/8 inch at a time. Be sure to monitor water pressure. If you go too high you will lose pressure. I try to stay above 12 pounds.

The headrests had "fairings" behind them on the hatch when Brad was done with it.

Thanks for posting this! Man, what a beautiful job Brad did on that boat. I saw it at Blarney just after he finished it. It looked great.

Both Brad and I did a lot of work on that hull. Fun and very fast. Wonder where she ended up.

I can see now from the side shot of 265mercman's boat it's the earlier 23 Daytona.

@265mercman did you get it figured out?

Mine with a single 400r porpoises 60-75 mph. It did exactly the same with twin 300’s and I’ve run numerous props on each. Trimming up or down doesn’t really change it, but trimming up seems to get through it quicker. It took me quite a while to get comfortable with it.

Something to understand about these hulls is that the center pod is raked like a massive trim tab in the down position. This gives it a ton of stern lift. Myself and others have found max speed trimming it high to overcome the built-in stern lift. I’ll stop short of recommending anyone else try that; just telling you what we’ve found.

Higher is usually better as long as you maintain water pressure UNLESS....remember what I was saying about trimming high? If I get my prop shaft too high then I lose bite when it I try to trim it high for bow lift. In other words, when the shaft is too high, I will get into the 80’s and start trimming up for the last 10 mph. Well, instead of the bow coming up, the bow stays level and the rpms rise until I hit the limiter because it starts slipping too much. You have to have good bite to get the bow up. I don’t know if those cleavers will get you enough bow lift but it’s worth a shot since you have 2 in the water. I’d like to see something more like bblades blasters, pro e.t., or even pro max props on it.
