    Molinari Resto

Restoring late 70s Molinari 18'3". Boat has been dry and never had any crash damage repairs. 21.5" transom. Considering power options, needs to run 80+, be dead reliable, run long distance. My main objective here is lake toy not a 140mph circle runner. Mercury 115/ 150 pro xs 4 stroke?Click image for larger version.

...cut the transom to the proper height for starters. that tall transom provides too much leverage for damage/danger. definately, definately no longer shaft length than a 15'' motor of whatever you choose... all that aside, the boat really deserves to be restored & rigged as it was intended originally though. just my two cents.

It needs a 250lb motor, not at 450 lb motor...and looks very much like a Velden.

That was my same thought, the previous own thought Molinari . The boat was built with a 20 inch transom and ran an omc. I get the original aspect of the boat. I have 2 merc 4 strokes and love everything about them. How would the boat handle with one of these 115 150 pro xs motors speed etc. I watch the F3 with race 60 and they scoot. My original plan for power was to build a 15" with sporty and run a175 opti powerhead alien cowl.

I like your idea for the 15" 2.5 with the 175 opti powerhead, sportmaster of course. That would be reliable, lower weight, and easily give you the speed, reliability, and distance you are looking for.

Being an original tall transom and running an omc. What would the motor have been? Weight, height above the top of the transom, hp of motor gear ratio, prop and prop shaft cl in relation to bottom of sponsors. In this race form form top speed on the longest strait? Lots of questions to make a comparable dissision. And yes the 200xs would be my first choice, hard to find.

There’s a 200XS for sale on the Reynolds Marine site. But 434 lb is a lot more then 250. Rebuild a V4 crossflow or inline 6?

Friend offered up a clean Johnson 120 v4. What could be done to mimic a stranger v4? What kind of performance?

Send it to Monty and it will run circles around any of the race v4s. You may be able to find a sst100 mid and gearcase set up too.

Bought a motor today for my boat it is 02 XR 6. Going to shave a few pounds, cut mid 15" remove oil injection, 2.0 has 2 bad holes, cyl 2 and 6 melt down no holes in block or case. What would be the best route to take. Leave it stock or clean up ports, reeds, and put a little compression in the cylinders with shaved heads?
