Anybody ever use different coils on a 2.5 EFI
Reason I'm asking is I'd like to put new coils on the motor and thought I ask before I spend the coin for exact replacements. Figure maybe somebody has tried something different like this before. Wondered if the square single cylinder Opti coils would work (my 2 wire, Opti 3 wire) ?
Thanks

I just had a could take down a driver and had to repair the ECU on a 2005 280 and I believe there was an aftermarket coil that saves about 20 bucks each . This conversation on aftermarket was at a parts counter and it was a quick conversation , I did not get the vendors name - all i was made aware of is the small amount differance . Hope this helps

Eric Kaiser has used the newer design coils on a 2.5, but he was probably using Motec or some other aftermarket ignition.

Motec actually sells the mercury coil as they seem to be the best cdi coil
