1988 Crusader model? Layup? Help!
Looking for some info on a boat I just bought. A bit of an impulse buy but it has an early S3000 from Lee Davies, couldn’t turn it down as I was just thinking about him recently, then it pops up! It looks to have been rebuilt, floor, transom etc. The work looks so so but it would be nice to se how it was laid up originally, just glass? Balsa? Kevlar? So many questions lol! Anyone own one of these? Any pics of a build in progress? What model could it be. No readily available info that I can find.
thank you!

That’s a cool looking boat. I have never seen one of these. What is the length? 20’? 21’?

Hey Jasper cool looking boat, keep us up to speed on how it works out. Do you have any more pics ? I have never heard of a Crusader before. I vaguely recall that the USCG has a searchable HIN database that may give you insight into where a given boat was made, that may help you find some more local S&F members who might know about it. Just thinking out loud.
Matt
P.S. I miss the old dude too lol.

Crusader was based in California for many years. The first three digits of the HIN are legit. They built a lot of cool stuff although I never knew they did that particular hull. I was not born back then but did a lot of research on them as they built a very unique deep V monohull race boat. This is why I have a little info. Where the hell did you find something like that?

You have been here for 8 years and only posted single digits?

Thank you for the info! Apparently the original owner used to Pitt crew for Lee Davies and he was in Washington. The owner apparently raced this hull too but not too sure what class. I found it looking for tunnel hulls on a google search. The boat was in Nanaimo BC the new owners were having trouble with it and had to put a new motor on which happened to be one from Lee, sold to Mike Nass, then sold to them. The motor cowlings ended up being off my Hydrostream

Not sure what you mean by “single digits”.

Don't sweat it. The owner of Crusader is still kicking around in SoCal. At least as of a couple of years ago. Dude has some serious achives.

Thank you, will do! I have pulled all the interior and gutted the old wiring that was left behind from a previous rigging(s), threw out the subs and amplifier, starting to re wire and make it safe. It has a throttle pedal but the dam thing was bolted through the hull fixing that ASAP then it has Morse controls with the wrong cables and too big, in the way, scrapping those too. I need to find a smaller shift only unit.
I think the starboard fuel tank may have a leak at the filler neck. It has two 15 gallons tanks, one on top of the port and one on the starboard sponsons but they both feed into the filter without a selector valve. I guess in theory they have fuel drawn equally? I’m sure if one was empty and one full it would definitely handle funny
