    Reliable bass boat repower? Optimax?

I'm looking to repower my bass boat. It originally had a 225 promax but after powerpoles and 3 trolling motor batteries were installed, the engine doesn't have enough power and torque. What would be a reliable repower option. I'm open to just about anything but need reliability. I've considered a 300xs but I'm skeptical of their reliability. What would you guys do? Is a 300xs reliable? Is their another engine I should be looking for? I do need something that can run a sportmaster though.

Im sure you will get a million opinions, but I really like the Optis. They can be really reliable if taken care of. They are a bit of work to maintain, but will treat you well.

This exactly. They (like every Direct injection 2stroke from all brands) take a little more love and care. They won't tolerate neglect. You can beat on them. But don't neglect them.

As the owner of two 300xs's with about 25 hrs on them, what, generally speaking, is the extra care they need compared to older style efi motors?

Mercury additives through every tank, treat fuel for any amount of storage. Clean entire fuel system by 100 hours, do all preventative maintenance.

    Optimax all the way
Guy I know replaced a 2.5 200 efi with a 3.0l 200 dfi and is amazed with the low end torque of the 3.0l. He says he can now run full fuel ,full live wells and has no problem getting on plane.
I would say a 225-250 Optimax would be what you need
As for sportmaster is it because boat runs better this way or current motor has motor power been higher out of water

How big is your boat? I may have a fresh 200 3.0 Optimax that will fit your needs.

20ft. Back before having a heavy 36v trolling motor system and two power poles, my boat would run 83. To much weight for the pro max now. I really want to put a 300R on it but the new sportmaster won't work on my boat. I'm debating on not repowering it and selling the boat. Then getting an XB21 with 300R.

The reason I asked is I am somewhat in the market for a boat. Good friend had an intimidator. Nice boat but not what I want. Thanks for the reply.

No problem. Awesome boat but when Mercury came out with the new sportmaster, they couldn't be used on these boats. Any other sportmaster will work except the new one.
