    Scan and cut new gaskets?

know of someone who can scan an existing NLA gasket, convert to a file and then cut more gaskets either by laser or other means?

    thanks

I have a couple rolls of gasket material. One is called garloc and it’s graphite reinforced. If I’m working on something old or not super critical you can either trace the old gasket over and cut with a razor knife or sometimes I place the part over gasket surface down and with weight or hammer I make and impression. Sometimes you can forgo a gasket altogether with the right silicone type stuff.

The only critical concerns are stack considerations and head gaskets. Stack meaning cylinder jugs that will put other parts slightly out of position if the thickness isn’t spot on. Head gaskets I’ve had better luck reusing old ones with copper spray and other goop in a pinch. Keep in mind anytime you try something like this you add risk.

Not knowing the application of the gaskets you want to have made, I can only tell you of what i did.
I wanted to have a new base basket to match the exhaust port we developed for the 3.0L Merc blocks.
I took a 300x gasket and traced it out on construction paper. Then I made the changes I wanted made.
Then I had to find the correct material that had the size holes in the core. With so many small ribs (dividers) in the block / adapter plate if the expanded metal (stainless) core's holes were too big it could span the width of the rib and blow out easily.
Gaskets like that are still stamped out. I found a company out west that build's gasket dies. They charged me $750.00 to build a set of dies and ship them to the stamping company. The whole thing wasn't cheap , but I got a box of 50 gaskets exactly how I wanted them for a little more than a thousand dollars. I own the dies as well as the intellectual property and can only be used by my account number.

I have a supplier up here in Canada for making custom order gaskets, small batch. I trace the originals to make CAD files to send them. I am planning on digitizing a set of NOS gaskets for a twister T1 in the coming months.

Do not remember how many you have to buy but American packing and gasket in Houston can scan and produce gaskets.

Any fab shop with a laser can do this. The question is if they're willing to or not. I was a welder in a fab shop for 10 years, I saw all sorts of material get cut out from our lasers. It is fairly easy to copy something on cad/solidworks from a scan. So if it fits on a photocopier it can be done.
