2004 300XS Scan
If hooked up to scan, will it show the RPM's and Hours that the motor spent in those RPM levels? Thanks in advance.

Probably be another thread but what are good numbers for compression on this motor. I know within 10% of each other but what kind of number should I be looking for. Also what leak down numbers do you look for on an outboard

Dissconnect the air injectors for the compression test. Should be 100-110.

Ok, I was wrong. It is a 300x. Will they show the RPM range as well? When scanned. It is a 2004. I want to know before I travel

300x motors are the most powerfull consumer 2 stroke made by mercury. Generally reliable...a little thirsty on fuel. 2004 is a newer motor. One with 225 original hrs and never opened is a desirable motor.

I had a 300 promax which is a less powerful version of the 300x. Little thirsty on fuel is a large understatement. Ive had 225 promax's. 280 etc. Like the way the 300 promax ran, but a 27 gallon tank could be drained in about 27 miles. Got tired of carrying gas cans.

I read the thread and this went from an XS to an X and if your travelling to meet up and try and buy a motor - you best know what your looking at or be able to tell the differance in a promax or an X .
The reason I say this is I once looked at a 300x that was just a decal change and once cowl removed was a promax . So try and get a good handle on what the differances you are looking for . Hope this helps

If scanned will it give the RPM range that the motor was run at hour wise?
like 500-1000 RPM =2hrs 1001-2000 = 4.5hrs

Yes sir - if you hook a DDT or Rhinda up you are able to read how many minutes or hours the motor has ran in a window that shows exactly minutes ran at 1000 rpm to 1800 rpm then another 1800 - 2800 then another 2800 - 3800 on an on untill you have reached the rpm limiter . Then it will show you a total run time . The total run time should equal those rpm run time totals .
The above question I believe has been answered before but understand you asking several times when not comfortable with the DDT or Scanner .
The scan will also show many more parameters- like temp alarms or misfires
Be aware that a computer can be switched out and you will not know . I am not trying to ruin your ability to buy this - just know a fair amount of info before you step up . I am not all that knowledgeable but if you are looking for a Promax 300 or a 300 x - get the guys here to explain what you are looking for - I am not that guy , so someone needs to tell you what to look for . Usually most guys here are pretty damn honest and will be upfront about what they are selling .
I recently bought a 280 and went through very similar conversations as you - motors are expensive - buy the best you can afford - ask questions and become knowledgeable so you can buy with confidence. It's exciting to get a nice piece of equiptment - on the other side if you buy a piece of equiptment that needs some work and it needs some issues resolved - it can get expensive .
sooo yack it up sir and know exactly what you are trying to achieve on what hull . You have already been told 300s are thirsty twice - they are - .
You are asking questions - good - now tell us the whole story if you want and get good advice from this forum . Example pics of the powerhead and clamp - serial numbers on head and clamp - history on the motor and where it was run and on wjat hull - salt water or fresh . If in doubt ask questions and take pictures - post them here .

Simple way to tell the difference between a promax and a x. Look at the computer on the engine. If it has 2 computers on the back it is a promax. If it has the computer on the side it is a X. If the intake is covered in the front it is a promax. If it has the throttle body to the top it is a X. If it is indeed a 2004 then it is an X.
