Optimax water tube
Question on the water tube going into the engine block......is this "locked" into place at the block? I am replacing the water pump and would like to know if there is any chance of the tube coming out of the block location. Lower unit has not been removed in many years.

The copper tube actually pushes into the adapter plate . It’s held there by a tapered rubber sleeve . If by chance it comes out , no biggie . I’d just reinstall with a little contact cement . Hf...

Thanks for the info. I was looking at a diagram of the tube and it seems to have some sort of lip at the top? Is that part of the tube construction or actually the rubber sleeve you mention? It seems to go into a housing that bolts to the base of the block. Only reason I was concerned is the motor is a 2006 and the person I bought it from wasn't sure the last time the water pump was replaced. The guess was about 5 years ago.

On an opti 3.0 liter it is def bolted under a hard plastic piece. It will not fall out.

that's how it looks for the 1.5L 115 hp optimax. So it would seem that removing the lower unit would not pull the water tube out of the P/H unless it broke if I understand this correctly.

Removed the lower unit today. Both the water tube and shift shaft were "locked" in place. It should make the reinstall very easy to line up. I am used to my 200hp 2-stroke where both are flopping around and need to be coaxed into place. Just thought I would update the forum as it may help someone else.
