Phil Niekro and the knuckleball

I don't know squat about baseball, but I always thought the knuckleball was cool. Phil Niekro died this week, and he was one of the great knuckle ball pitchers. Phil Niekro played until he was 48 and he did not take care of himself like Tom Brady does. There was a story in the paper this week about Mr Niekro drinking beer and smoking cigarettes in the Blue Jays clubhouse. It apparently takes less strength/speed to throw a ball with no spin relatively slowly across the plate. But if it was easy to throw that pitch more people would do it.

I just like the idea of a slow unhittable pitch in an era of radar guns.
