    Very cool dude!

Had no idea you were an old kneel down guy.

I started w/the small classes (as you mentioned) in ‘1976 as a self funded junior in high school.
Designed and built most of my boats and motors and that was as intriguing to me as winning.

But that reality mandated......, owning junk cars/tow vehicles, crap apartments, crap propellers, crap jobs (missing work to race) but wouldn’t change a thing.

One of my first apartments I put plywood over the carpeted floor in the dining area and converted it to a motor shop.
Normally had two or three MK15/20’s on stands and parts, props, tool boxes etc.
Still remember the maintenance man making a surprise visit and freaking out when he saw it!

Built an ASH in the basement of another.

Became an education on becoming an adult, learning to travel, budgeting, partying () etc.

IMO, that was the best era of kneel downs.
What started as the heavy (gorgeous) Desilva runabouts, gorgeous but heavy cab over hydro’s that (as you also said) were built as lake (rough water) boats, noisy Mercs w/open pipes that were slower than their Stock cousins, to lightweight picklefork hydros, Bezoat and Staron runabouts and Motors that ran as good as they sounded!
When I started, almost all the Stock records were faster than the Mod records.

And the Alky, modded Merc lake motors became purpose designed/built Pro Koenig race motors.

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Its been rebuilt, Bored .030 over with Wiseco pistons, switched to a set of 86-91 XP/GT175 136/137 heads and had them cut .020, 1 3/8 carbs modified and jetted, Boyesen reeds... Have another powerhead rebuilt and waiting that's .040 over with the big bore 638/639 heads cut .020 waiting its turn, same 1 3/8 carbs, Boyesen reeds Wiseco pistons etc... With the current power head it runs 71.2 gps just me 1/4 tank of fuel...

I have a small collection of older small race boats and 50's merc race engines. Early 70's D Class Bezoat in the back with 55H, early 60's A/J Class Speedliner with KG7 and H foot, and early 70's Austin B Class utility with 20H popper. Stock 20H by back wall. Always loved this old stuff that I grew up with. Click image for larger version.

I raced 20H toilet bowls and kept three when I quit.

Plan was to sell one for seed money to support the design/build of a 12’ - 14’ tunnel boat for twin 20 H’s but life changed my mind.

I remember selling a bunch of it to a guy that showed up wearing MK55 ear rings

Actually she runs rock solid at that speed, it has one of Checkmates older performance pad hulls, with a step about 2/3 back, it gets up on the pad and sits, set up really well... Same hull as the Enchanter, just open bow... Checkmate's are a tad on the heavy side too
which helps too.. hoping for 75, lol...
