Posts like this make this site a blast. BV, Thanks for the pictures!
Mr Sanders, I was at the 1981 Havasu Classic to watch.
Gary, That Yellow powerhead brings back memories of that build.

RBT I did run one of those in early 80,s in unlimited, pretty sure it was from Land & Sea. Never ran carbs on it I ran belt drive mechanical injection on it with 2 home-made slide plate intakes. Used 1/8 th brass plate for the slide. Back then the only ones running that kind of stuff was me and Ro Yale. Galen was his engine man and one of the masters of hot rod outboards. Both of them were very good friends, sad day to the boat racing world with him gone. He was the man. Will post some stuff tomorrow, just feel like crap right now. Thanks to all for the kind words because that's what this site is all about. B.V.

I only made it to just one Havasu Classic. I think it was 1986 or 87. I drove for Louis and Brad Collins in the first gen Mirage. The boat was fast and I was running in second to Alan Stoker when the fuel tank split in the weld with 45min left to go, Bummer. We thought well we`ll get the tank repaired and get some experience for me and some exposure for the new boat on day two but they cancelled the race because of high wind and rough water. Brad on the left me on the right and Louis in the middle.

Great picture and piece of history Bobby!
BV, Galen was one of my hero’s.
Loved it when he went OMC.
Ro Yale is still a hero of mine.
He was going places in OB drag racing that very few had been.
HUGE stones!I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

That is cool,
Galen had me looking for one of these x fronts. I think it was a merc piece. We were going to add v-force reeds, injectors and make slides for it. Add today’s programable efi it might have run good, at bare minimum it would have been cool as hell. Still have his number in my phone. Miss that guy2023 TUFF 25

What year is that? I have a '97-'98 catalog that is damn near mint!!! It would be cool if we could put them in PDF format (or ?) and load it on Scream and Fly. I don't want to cause damage to mine, and the only way I can think of is to pull the staples out, scan each page, and then put them back in. Might have to pay someone to do that though!
I did buy some parts back in the day. They were the only place you could get OMC high perf parts.

I am not much like that cool Merc stuff, but I guess I am different?
Well, this one is 40..... years old right now. '80 235 Evinrude that I cobbled together. I was rather poor back then, but managed save to go through it right, was lucky getting all my OMC parts for cost from the dealership I used to work at. Kept the tighter heads on it, cut the reliefs in the block and the scallops in the pistons like the XP. Removed casting flash and ground the tits off the plunge milled ports. Put the 85 XP carbs on it. Other wise it was stock.
Land and Sea, Ah yes! Reeds, V stacks, fuel bowls, bowl stuffers, solid mounts, and at this time I had their nose cone and prop ring. OMC perf parts were a CCC flywheel and a 29" SRX.
Nothing like an old Xflow turning 7K. Ended up on an old XB2002 Comp Pro and still is. Plan on digging it out this spring. Who else has a big bore crossflow? I have about 3 grand in it and I was beating or at least running with 225 Promaxs. This wasn't a racer either. I would load two 5 gallon jerry cans in the back + 22 or so usable in the tank... 90 miles in an afternoon was a common place.

You had some nice parts on that engine but just barley scratched the surface of performance. There`s way more power to be had. However 7000rpm with a 29p SRX ain`t bad and it lives. Thats saying a lot.

The Land n Sea catalog shown is from 1988. I wish I could still order parts from it. I assumed it was already posted in full on S&F but if not I would be happy to do so. It’s pretty cool to thumb through today. I’ve been reaching back this week myself and pulled out my 1st build, the ole crossflow 140 that I hung on my viper. That was 1985.
