Difference between Merc150 and 175 powerheads

G’day all,I’m looking to replace my power head due to age and lack of time to rebuild it.... What’s the difference between the early 80s 150 and 175 V6 2-strokes? I have found a good 150 power head but am wondering if it’s just carbs and reeds to get it to 175?CheersBen

...depending on what year of the early 80's your referencing, but both are 122 c.i. steel sleeve powerheads. yes, both would be vertical reed motors. on the cylinder head(s)outer surface, in a little circle thats cast into the head, is the diameter of the the engines bore, for quick reference. thats if the motors are all original & never been molested, who knows...

thought all tha 80's up, maybe '81, 175 were 2.4's after tha chrome bore showed up? (200 block halves)? they just slapped a vertical front on 'em?

I had a 79 2.0 150 , when it went down, I had a 81 2.0 150 to put on , and even tho they were identical, the 79 had alot more balls then the 81 I had , both was in good shape , them old motors run good imo
