    1990 johnson looper

I am looking at a purchase of a 1990 Johnson 200 looper. I am kinda new to the big outboard world so I do not know is this motor is the one for me. I am looing for something that can be modified in the future if I want. How do these compare to the Mercs, and Yamahas ?
What are the ups and downs to this motor ?
    Thanks
    Lance

Use the search box at the top and you will find info about them. In real general terms(no fights here!) the Mercs have more mods available for them, more people doing that, and tend to be a bit lighter in v6 apps. There are still plenty of mods for omcs though and people here that are into them so no problem. I remember reading better heads and bigger carbs off certain models are good mods. They tend to have more torque but run less max rpm in stock form. Just depends on what you like, what prices/availability are by you, and what your performance goals are.

Try looking at some motor parts of this search for 'omc mods': http://forums.screamandfly.com/forum...by=&sortorder=

    Cool

'92 and later (I think I got the year right) had better swivel bracket and a faster trim system. 94 and later had finger ports. 98 had a better intake manifold that the 94 to 97. This is coming from memory. I have an article somewhere on it, but I would have to find it.. LOL.

FC has it close, the 93 on had finger ports and 96 on the better intake. If you are going to mod the motor it will not really matter.

    big help !!

Thanks for the info guys !! Well looks like I will soon be the proud onwer of a 1990 hydrostream voyager with a 200 looper. I will be driving half way across the country to pick it up. yep I'm nuts !!!!
All the guys that play around Seattle and the Columbia river with V-8 inboards wont know what hit them. most people around here dont even know what a Hydrostream even is ! !!!
I will try to post some pics when I get back with the Stream.
    Thanks again.
