For your little lake and that boat, I would want to have a 15" midsection and if you can't wait for the anticipated 15" 300R, then I would go with a 15" 300XS. They are way less mechanical cha$e then what you have experienced and you will love the torque difference "it will feel like a diesel in comparison to the 280".

I am sure you are about right on the pitch but I would sure like to know the answer to your question before I spend a lot of money to go slower. So now I have seen that the 300R will accelerate quite a bit faster than the 300XS but does a 280 accelerate faster than a 300XS also?

Hey Joe, what have you heard about a 15" 300R?

It will be coming but not for a while based on the discussions that I have heard. I know that the Super Stock class race boat participants have been told next year. This flu deal has affected Brunswick in a big way "they are too big of a target" to have employees claim to have contracted it from within their facilities. So therefore, they have a lot of people working from home and projects that were a priority have been moved back in order to maintain the normal course of production with fewer members on hand. They also have many other product development things in the works they are not sitting complacent (with this market being so hot for them now is the time for them to continue to score).

I am sure on a heavier and larger boat but I just don’t think so on a small medium weight Ski Racer.

Andy Driver can answer that question pretty easily, he has experimented with both on his bullet 20cc. He lives on a small lake and the 280 would get the boat to about 92 or 93 and the 300xs would get him to right at 100. Not a top end run just the distance he had on his small lake. I would figure the bullet hull was around 1000 # which would be a little heavier but not alot.

I sure hope its a consumer 15" 300R and not a racing ROS. I'll be the first to order if its a consumer model.

Thanks for the input! His lake situation is exactly like mine. if the 300xs accelerated better than the 280, I have seen videos of the 300R beating the 300xs so things could be looking good for a new 300R!

Keep us posted if you pull the trigger I am real interested how you like it on a Ski Racer compared to your 280.

Here is a photo from when I had my 280 that will give you skeg bottom to cowl top height of a 15" to compare to a 300R.

Greg G, Did you replace a 280 with a 300R? If so how did they compare?

Most of us use this midsection with a Optimax powerhead 320hp lots more torque, God knows if Merc will come out with a 15 V8 have to wait or go the other route.

A couple months ago I measured from propshaft to top of cowling on a 20" 300R compared to my 16" Etec. The 300R was 11" taller.....Which would hit my garage door opening. Lol. A 15" 300R with my new hydraulic jackplate should be able to make it by an inch when fully down......Praying for a 15" version!!!!

I do not think there is any chance you will be able to take delivery of a 15" 300R by 12/31/2021
