I am a Mechanical Engineer and used to work on cars, snowmobiles and jet skis but I thought with the tight tolerances of a race engine, i did not want to go there. So in the 7 years that I have had this boat i could have bought the 300R instead of the repair costs I have spent at the only 280 specialist in my area.

torqey 3.2L on a small mirage boat should out accelerate a 2.5 in a drag race?IDK?

At this point I am done with two strokes. If I am going to put an engine that heavy on, it will be the 300R. it is supposed to significantly more torque than the 3.2L

I guess it should with extra 1.4L and two extra cylinders..not a fan of the extra porky weight on a small Mirage..not to mention all the broken propshafts and lost props that Mother Merc is telling you to kick rocks even under warrantee..!

So after paragraph's and paragraphs of deflection you only know of 1 STV and ZERO Mirages with with a porkchop hanging off the back. Thats quite a resumé considering he has a Mirage ... Pppffftttt

Now back to my question ....

So lets just go with an easy one that will only require "a number" as an answer ..

How many STV or Mirage hulls have gone over 130mph with a 300r ?

Fill in the blank _ 0

I left two spots, if you need to go over 99 of them, feel free to add another ..

Dont worry I wont make you say it ... I filled it in for ya ... !!!!

In today's drag racing they use 20" 22" max pitch, If he has stock 280 electronics he is not going to spin 10,000 to 11,000 like they do in drag racing, you put 3=4 people and a cooler in your 280 boat vs same weight and a 3.2 320 hp XS I'll bet on the XS, the stock 280 is a low compression motor with restrictive electronics you have to add compression to wake up the bottom end, where the XS has direct injection with a compressor to help the atomization of fuel to get the most out of every drop unless your at full throttle then they will burn a comparable amount.

What about looks? Every picture I've seen of any boat under 24 feet or so looks like a ridiculous caricature cartoon drawing of a boat. The engine is so big it looks like it's eating the boat. Not to mention the handling characteristics that follow a giant top heavy porkchop way up in the sky like that.
    ANTI40It's just an idea.

Jacksonville to Key West .. and around the horn to Naples .... How many Pork Chops over 130 on an STV or Mirage ???

    Survey says ...

For those that are overeducated ****** , that's not roman numeral thirty .. your welcome

Chaz = wunderin, for those that would still seek this unpopular combo .. should you dress in your own body bag before leaving the ramp .. ???

Mercury really left the little boat guys by the curb without a V6 R option

The V6 could make 250hp and weigh under 500 lbs.

Paying is the price of admission. Whether it's the V8 300R or hopefully a V6, the man calls the price and we smile and open our checkbooks.

That is correct. At this point in my life, I do not care to do it anymore. That does not mean that I do not want to go fast anymore.

No 300R for me, I love boating but not that much. When 2 strokes are totally outlawed I’ll be done.
I am an old man, I don’t have much time left anyway. It seems now days most people like top end.
I prefer quick acceleration, I don’t think the 300R is there yet, maybe some day.
