300R on a Mirage Jaguar Ski Racer
I am thinking about replacing my 280 with the 300R but wonder how the boat would handle it. I am not looking for more speed but want something more reliable. I am hoping to have at least as good acceleration since I live on a small lake. I would appreciate any information on this potential setup.

Better acceleration more torque, why not?

We have run heavy motors on a Mirage river racer. Handled it no problem. No bad tendencies. Go for it.

The problem with Mercury is they do not ever give us the real numbers.
The 561 pounds is on a digital scale full of fluids. 100% accurate weight for the standard 3 ram 300R model.

If you got 2-3 people ice cooler tampons ect. you can use a low pitch prop and EAT.
4.6 l vs 2.5l It does weigh almost 200lb more though. We have invented the world; WE see

Throw a 26 pitch on the 280 and 8k rpms. I love torque but small pitch and rpms will put a smile on your face. What are the max rpm of the 300r? I have a friend that went from a 260 to a 300xs and was not happy I don’t know much about the new 4 stroke mercs.

We went from a 260 to a 300 xs, on a 21 mtr. Made huge difference, like a whole new boat, gobs of low end torque and mid range

I have a 14.5x26 Lightning ET on the 280 turning about 8200 RPM. On about a 1/2 mile run (small lake) I can hit 102 MPH with just me in the boat. I would be satisfied if the 300R could do the same. Not having to worry about repairs for 3 years (warranty) would justify it for me.

I weighed a new 300R on a digital scale and weighed the cowl also. Cowl was 28 lbs. Total weight was 561 lbs. 450R is 721 with cowl.

There is a U Tube video comparing 300R vs 300XS vs 300XS DBR (whatever that is) on a Allison XB21 Prosport. The 300R was fastest at 5-100 MPH, 30-100, 50-100, and top feed (on its limiter 6450 RPM). It was also quickest at 30-50 MPH, 50-70, etc. My other question would be since the 300R does not offer a 15"mid (would have to go 20, would hanging the engine 5" higher have any impact?

Slower wide open corners? I remember Wally from Triad boats, his son was racing in Lake Racer and biggest jack plate I ever saw on a STV, He said to me It works, they said
it
wouldn't
I'm having side saddle tanks made to move the weight forward and give room
the way the back of my boat is angled, water will come over the back with wave action

I think you will have to run a minimum of a 31-32 pitch prop to hit 100, I will be real curious on a Ski Racer if in the same lake you can do that compared to your 280. I know my friend loves the 300xs on long river runs and for longevity, so the R should even be better.
