    Water Pump Coupling 3.0 Sportmaster

Does the notch in the plastic water pump coupling on a 3.0 Sportmaster face forward or aft?
Also when doing the water pump, should the lower grommet on the water tube that the coupler butts up against be changed? Can it be changed with the lower unit off and reaching up inside or do you need to pull the power head. It looks like may be able to be just slid down??

The water pump kit should come with a couple of "extra" O-rings. They go inside the Bakelite connector. Put the connector on the pump housing with the large funnel / slot facing up .
Also the little tee-pee lookin seal goes on the drive shaft. Push it down until it's aprox three sixteenth's to a quarter inch away from the pump housing . It not really a seal , it's more of an umbrella .

Does the notch in the Bakelite Connector face in any special direction?

    Just faces up ...

Can't say if they used it for a "direction finder" or a "harmonic control" device.
But as you can see the tube fits inside well below the O-ring.

This is all the manual says about it --->

I think its just a drain to keep water from sitting in the alignment end of the coupling and rotting out the end of the water tube over time, I put it foreward so it will drain when trimmed up.

That makes perfect sense that it's a drain .....
Most all of it will drain flat then, but for the last drop .. Dave is correct ..

They should make a full circle one for those guys who trim up way past 90* ..

But what do they do wiff the water that goes in the props and comes out of the intake ..
