CDI also offers a blue “racing” switchbox and hi-po stator. I’ve had decent luck with them, are a good oem replacement option. Had one set of switchboxes with a bad bias circuit that caused me some grief, but otherwise been good. The Sierra boxes are also a good option.

You would trust a 20 buck chinee box that could cause a problem with your expensive elec system and even melt the pistons? I would heave those things. I still put out the bucks for orig merc stuff.

Don’t like to use anything with China on it, have had no luck with any of it from automotive to kids toys. Always found to be junk, you get what you pay for. Had a buddy try one of the value line voltage regulators from pro marine, lasted about a month and caught fire, luckily he checked on it when tach went crazy, or it was about to get really bad. Bias circuit goes to crap in the switchboxes and ya got yourself a melted piston, not worth it IMO.

What you're suggesting would be the best use for the cheap Chinese knock-off switch boxes . Just do what the Chinese do and disassemble it and reverse engineer it using high quality electrical components instead .
I suspect the SCR /Thyrister inside that fires the spark coil is a specialized type device such as a GTO SCR .
Summit sells the Sierra boxes for $152 each with free shipping so for me it wasn't worth the risk of using an incorrectly rated component and having a meltdown .
