Sandblast finish on trailing edge and cup ?
Hi Guy's
Been looking at a certain stainless steel prop for a while and I like the idea if it is something that would work.
this is NOT my prop in the photo just for a example.
The prop in the photo and my question is about the blasted finish on the trailing edge of the blade, looks to be a
bout 3/4 inch wide along the trailing edge including the cupped areawhat I am wondering is,
would this be of any advantage to have this on the blades. I.E to help keep grip or aid in any way at all ?
or is this purely just a cosmetic thing purely for looks ?
Does something like this sort of aid in adding like a bit of pitch being as the water flow would be held on a bit more ?
I could be completely on the wrong track looking at this,
but thought it worth a mention, ive seen this on few props over the last couple of years.

Merc says that the rough finish helps to collapse any air bubbles and help with slip numbers. All the choppers had them "new" from my memory. My labbed lightning ET has it from merc. prop shop.

It's not sandblast on the mercs. It's a small D/A disc sander finish. 80 grit I would guess. About 3/4'' or so.Same idea tho. Ruff blast would work same. My lightning is at a friends house at the moment. I don't have pics...Only chopper I have now is polished. Sold 2 big blade choppers that were virgins, they had it.

thanks for the info.
i think i will find some nice thick tape and run a nice 1/2 band , will use glass beads ( as thats all i have for blasting at the moment).
i have a bit of scrap stainless i will polish and have a practise on first...
its just something i have liked the look of to give a sort of custom finish and was hoping it might help a touch.
As long as it dont pull the rpm down too much i will be very happy with it
thanks again for infoLast edited by phillnjack; 11-25-2020 at 12:23 PM.
