20 inch 2L merc with CLE on 25 inch transom
Hi! I currently have an 115 merc XL in my fletcher and i want to upgrafe to a 2L merc L with open exhaust. Problem is, its an L (20 inch) and my 115 is XL (25 inch)
The cavitationplate of the 115 merc is currently at exactly the keel of the boat, and its mounted on the second hole from the top, so it is possible to lower it 2cm (1inch)
The 2L merc has a CLE lower unit, which makes it possible to run it a little higher (right?) Im not sure but i think it will be around 4 inches above te transom. What do you think? Is it possible? The keel of the boat stops about 3 inches before the rest of the hull stops at the rear (there is a name for it)
If the prop will be surfacing i will need to step up un pitch to make it work
I dont prepare a jackplate because it puts a lot of stress on the transom and it is a little bit overpower. I actually prefer to cut in the transom 3 inch.

Not the best pic of bottom to propshaft height, the new motor should work but best to put a straight edge on pad and get a measurement. BTW if that is a pic of the actual XR2 you have lower looks more like a straight skeg Sporty than a CLE. You also need to upgrade your steering as a single cable is not going to be safe. Unless your going to be over 80mph that Sporty is not the best choice for a case, Torquemaster would work better.

Oh im sorry, what is the difference between cle and sportsmaster?
Im not going to buy the engine to reach absolutely top speed with my current boat. I just want it because they are rare here and its been a dteam of mine to own one.
Already have h2o gauge. It does not have 3 top holes? Only 3 lower water pickul holen?

The prop is 5" too deep and the new motor is 5" shorter... what did I miss?
The cavitation plate of the 115 merc is currently at exactly the keel of the boat

What do you mean? That the propellorshaft should be at the hight of the keel instead of the cavitation plate?

Sporty and CLE are for surfacing applications where neg to neutral trim is used when exceeding 80mph. If your boat needs positive trim to get the best top speed. You are better off with a Torquemaster case. My BAJA is a good example, looses 5-6mph with a CLE over a Torquemaster because it needs some positive trim to hold the bow up at WOT.

Thanks for your reply! But i am not looking for top speed. I just want this killer engine behind me fletcher (which is only rated for 90hp), so i have to keep it easy, im not going for top speed runs, and will reinforce the transom, but agaim, i have to be very carefull not to ruin the transom. I just want this engine now because its very rare over here.
I just want it to go 45 - 50 mph (right now im doing 40mph) and i dont care if i have power i cannot use. Even if the nose cone running submurged, it wouldnt go top speed but would still be good to handle right?
The next boat i buy will be adjusted to the engine so it can fly!
