    Swivel Bracket S/N Help Needed

I have a dilemma with the S/N on my 99 Merc 2.5/175 EFI outboard that I'm building. The serial number tag got burned up during some welding repair work. In Ohio outboards have to be titled. My problem is I bought the motor in KY where no titles are required.
Here at our Ohio BMV they said you must prove S/N by in person inspection of said motor if no title is available...........
So what's a guy to do.....?

I'm thinking of buying a scrap/salvaged Swivel bracket (P/N 8M0102865 or 8710T20) with a good serial # tag on it and gently try to remove it and transfer it to my Swivel Bracket. This would issue the motor a different S/N and Model # on a title than what it is but I don't really care about that.

FYI: There are 615 motor applications this Swivel Bracket was used on.

    Any other ideas and welcome..................

I've got a set of 3/16" Metal Stamps and gave it some thought on just stamping the S/N onto the block near the Starboard cylinder head.

I've hunted all over that block 99 Merc 175 EFI, and can't find a thing. I'll come up with something eventually !

Hey while I got your attention, what's your opinion on "NOT" running an exhaust gasket between the tuner and adapter ? Heard lots of stories of gaskets burning out and the tuner just rattles around in there. My adapter and tuner faces are w/in .003 of flat to each other so I wouldn't think just tightening it down would be good enough. I replaced all the screws with stainless 1/4-20 studs loctited in there w/#271 thread locker. I'm gonna double nut each stud and use thread locker as well.

I changed out a bass clamp for offshore clamp on a 2008 300XS (12 years old) and was able to pull off the 2008 sticker and put it on the new offshore clamp w/o any issue. I would try a "little" heat to persuade it.

think tha BIG BOYS use safety bolts/wire.... i never tried it without a gasket.. think i had one loosen up in all those years.. one thing though, i never put much time on anything i had and/or built... 8/10 hrs on anything mine was A LOT............
