What prop to start
Hi everyone,
I recently picked up a 1991 hydrostream vegas, which is going in for a splashwell delete, 3" transom, 2 knees, thicker fiberglass layup and stringers. I traded the 2.4 200, blown bridgeport powerhead and some money for a 2010 rebuilt 250 mercury proXS. I have no idea what prop i should purchase to start with this coming spring, does anyone have a similar setup that could recommend me a pitch and type of prop? I currently have a 23p tempest plus and a 25p quicklsilver both of which i would assume are way to low in pitch.
I would like to stay under 1000 dollars as im sure after testing etc. i may need it to be modified or another prop.
It will be on a hydraulic jackplate with 6" of setback, any idea what speeds it would be capable of?

V bottom or XT? Sport master or torque master? 1.75 or 1.87 or gears? Max rpm for that motor? Without knowing enough I would guess a 28 Trophy

Fleet master is not the best choice. It has no torque tab and I don’t think the water pick ups will work at you best engine heights. You would be better off with a sport master or coned torque master.

I'll have a couple lower units for sale soon. Both are getting serviced in New Bern, NC. One is a CLE case with regular gears and prop shaft. Other is a coned torquemaster. Will post an ad once I have them back from the shop. Not sure yet on price. See how much it costs me to get them done.
