Hi Mo,
It's a 2001 SPRINT 280 PRO. I bought this boat last year for $1800, came with a 2001 90 HP Yamaha. Top cap was seriously oxidized from sitting outside uncovered for years. A very laborious wet sanding took care of that, looks like new now. Years ago I owned another Sprint, 2000 290 PRO that I had a Merc XR6 on and loved everything about the boat except the XR6, sold the XR6 and built a Merc 225x motor. Certain year/models of SPRINT’S came with a “COMPOSITE TRANSOM” (No Wood), it’s actually a honeycomb aluminum incased in epoxy. I’ve replaced transoms before and it’s a job I swore I’d never do again and that’s why I bought another Sprint.
With the 90HP Yami and me in the boat, all it did was plow water, didn’t have the power to get on plane. I sold the 90HP Yami this year for $4500. That put $2700 back in my pocket and enough for a project motor.
Bought a blown 1999 Merc 175HP/2 Stroke for $400 (no lower unit) to rebuild. It needed one sleeve, new crank, one rod, one head and some block web welding, everything else in and on the motor was replaced with brand new parts including pistons/rings and all the electronics. Shaved the heads to 34cc’s. Did some light port work for flow and added a tuner from a 200 Merc because of the short mid.
Motor will be a pre-mix motor, removed the fuel reg from the VST and install an adjustable one to feed the newly serviced injectors. Added a cylinder head temp unit for a dash gauge as well.
Motor is finished and hung on the boat, still have to put the SportMaster lower on and then the wiring is all I’ve got left to do. Going from a Yamaha to Merc means “ALL” new wiring…... So here’s some pics of the boat:

Pic of the boat right after I bought it on the first time out:
Latest updates, I had new carpet installed:
Trashed the old style OEM coil plate and built a new plate similar to a 225 ProMax:
Motor has been together for awhile now, new coil mounts done, gas in the tank. Hoping to fire it up next week on the hose. Finishing the boat has been slowed down allot do to my recent surgery and more a slow recovery, especially the wiring under the dash. It's tight in there and having to go from vertical to horizontal every time I need a terminal end or wire is very laborious for my condition, so it's a slow move forward, but I'll get there eventually...............

Your really going back a few years for that project . The dual S&S Super E's ran great, lots of throttle response ( seat of the pants Dyno) but just didn't do well for any prolonged idle, but it was a fun project and the R&D Team at S&S we're super great folks to work with.

If I recall there were two black rubber hoses hanging down to adjust the idle on the fly and how long have you been gone from GE ????
