    Best sounding CONSUMER outboards?

I know most of you are racers, but what are your favorite sounding consumer motors? Four of mine are listed below. Note, all of them are 2 stroke.

    1. Mercury 3l EFI 250 (1995-2002): I love the sound at idle... I've heard it described as "squirrels running around in a metal trashcan", which honestly it kind of does but in a very aggressive and badass sounding way. Hit the throttle and you have a powerful throaty note that stands your hair up on end

    2. Yamaha 2.6l 200: Has that wonderful two stroke "chug chug" sound at idle, and very throaty when you open her up. I've been told the Pro-V version of the 2.6l sounds even better, but I have yet to experience it, nor do I know what the difference is

    3. Evinrude/Johnson OceanRunner/Pro 225: Very aggressive sound at idle, and just plain sounds like a "classic" outboard

    4. Force 25: Most Force outboards are junk, but this outboard stands out as an enigma as it is probably the best 25hp motor ever built. It's unusual in that it has 3 cylinders at such low horsepower. This motor also just plain sounds fantastic

Triple 280s with offshore mids and an inexperienced throttle man going across the rough sound better then anything from a distance. A new four stroke sounds the best when I am in the boat and talking to people riding with me.

Let me edit this... ***Most force outboards were turned into junk because of novice beginner boaters not caring for them, blaming the motor instead of their incompetence for not winterizing them, not using premix, etc etc. The Force engines are unbelievably reliable, simple, and bullet proof in stock form.

...anyone that hasn't experienced this hasn't lived, lol. in the boat, out of the boat, whatever. triple merc hi-perf 2.4's/2.5's in the rough, on an offshore boat, preferably with you running it, are the best music in the world...

I have broken a good number of drives and transmissions over the years when I lived in West Michigan. We had some very expensive dinner runs from Grand Haven to South Haven and back. Its a love/hate relationship with inboards...I love them but hate to have to pay for them...

If I could afford it, my s**t would sound and run like this- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZhTGUYwMGc

But I do like the way a v-6 merc sounds. Do not have a preference for any particular one as I am not that familiar with them, but the more power they make, the better. And of course with an off shore exhaust. I remember the first time i ever seen one. At the Broken Oar on the Chain in northern Illinois. The guy started it and I just stopped what I was doing and stared at the thing. It sounded so good.
