K&D Marine Dynamometer Model 2000
I am lucky enough to come in possession of such a piece of equipment, but have no idea if they are still useful in the shop. Does anybody still use them to load test outboards? Thanks!

I have one of them as well. The shop it came from used it to load test but I plan on building a completely self contained bench with it for break in. I live out in the country so exhaust out side will be no issue.

A friend tried to sell me his 20 yrs ago.
He didn’t like it and said it overheated the oil too fast.
Load testing would be the key.
The ones I’ve seen read PSI and no HP.
Dont think they’re repeatable either.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

What you do is mod the arms and fit a load cell so it can direct read force. They could do with a bigger oil cooler when you are close to 300hp, thats for sure

The 2000 is really not meant for the larger engines. I had a 4000 and which has a much bigger oil tank and cooler as well as a larger pump assembly. We still broke the pump several times until we went to a hydraulics shop and built our own. It was still working when we closed. Like mentioned reads PSI and not hp

This shop mostly works on 6hp to 115's, with an occasional up to 150. He works on lots of 4-40 hp older Evinrude outboards. Being fresh water, there are still allot of 50's, 60's, and 70's outboards that get serviced.
You are right, Instigator, as it reads in PSI.
Looks like it may end up on Ebay!

I have one as well. Decent for load testing smaller stuff. Lots of them out there. Reads PSI not HP. Saves a fair amount of time going to the lake for a water test. Higher HP applications would need the 4000. Can be a useful tool in the right hands. I know BoostPower uses one of the 4000s often on his sterndrive stuff. I'm not sure to what extent though.

There is a chart available. It doesn't cover newer stupp or higher HP. I'm assuming if you had a ton of time you could plot it in comparison to actual rated HP if you knew those numbers as well. Who knows. IMO, if your doing any real tuning probably just getting a Dynomite would be your best bet, although they are 15x the price, and good luck finding them used.

In that video link, the marina has many dyno runs posted, he references a table of specs in some, wondered how complete the list is.
They also had a 4000 for-sale
