Just keep in mind no natter how little or how far you push the throttle you are still feeding 8 carbs. They like their fuel.

You sure will..... These are all my spare stators and power packs that I still have sitting on my shelf that were needed to keep the V8's running over the years I had them.

Toffen’s Phantom was 1mph slower with a V8 then with a 300 Promax. Did the V8 work on the Phantom better then it would on a smaller lighter boat? If this post was about 300 Promax vs 200 Merc I expect the recommendation would be go for it

Those were V6. Not quite as many cylinders that need to have functioning supply of spark and fuel at the same time.

I've been on a hunting trip so didn't have much service but I'm back and going to check out the motor tommarow after work. Seams like it's a mixed of people that like em and others that don't. I have a busy that really wants my 200 so I figured if I can swap motors for the same price then I'll give it a shot. I'll be redoing the boat in not so distant future so if I don't like it then I will get rid of it then and find something else when I'm done. I'll let y'all no how it goes. Does anyone no what the compression should be I was told it's between 110 and 120 on all cylinders but I'm going to check everything doe myself.

I have an idea on compression but I’ll let the experts that have been bashing them for the last 2 pages tell you.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

...instigator, you gather everything you need for your V-8, to get it going? what midsection length you going with? you prefer the johnson cowling or the evinrude cowling? did you get any powerhead accessories with the powerhead you bought?

Do you have a 3.6 power head (85 to 87) or 4 L power head?
