    I have a friend that one on a 22’ Talon w/I think, a 66 gl tank.
Said he could drain it in an hr!

Also said w/o adding finger ports it’s not near the motor people think.

Ive watched them since new in ‘85 and IMO, it was a design that OMC never finished developing.
Tons of potential but needs a thick check book to get one there.

I don’t think Bobby was ever satisfied w/how his ran and Scott in the Keys (RIP) spent yrs and a bunch of money trying to get one right and never did.

I have one as a project but it will get much attention before getting wet.

The good is, they are cheap, parts are cheap and they’re easy to work on.
They can/will make 400 hp on pump gas (a 2.5 will not) done right by someone in the know and will be a torque monster.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Thanks alot for the info on that. Ya that's one of the main things that's drawing me to them is the price. I don't have much of a budget right now but I just figured if I sold my motor and bought a v8 I could get going a faster for little to no money. Maybe I'd be better off waiting till I can afford something else.

To own a V-8, you have to want to own a V-8.

    And youre welcome.

My 300 would suck that 50 gallon tank down in 2 hours and change. The fuel line looked like a garden hose . At WOT you could watch the gas gauge drop. The 200 Merc is way better unless you hammer it.
The 2.0 and 3.0 liter OMC engines were great. 4.0 not so much.
If you want to go fast, put that 200 on a light go fast hull.

My argument to the fuel consumption always was, compared to what?

So At 3/4 throttle your 300 V-8 is using more fuel than your 2.4/2.5?
If that’s the issue then......(I like math)

In theory, @ 3/4 throttle, your 200 is making 150 HPs.

Conversely, your 300 @ 3/4 throttle should be making 225 HPs correct?

So your 300 is now making more power at 3/4 throttle than your 2.4/2.5 is even capable of making @ WFO but is not allowed to burn more fuel??

I always liked the math of:
    10 HP = 1 GPH.
    Period.

    Back to you guys

Ya my theory on it is similar. My 200 drinks fuel but I have to run it at high rpm all the time if I want a decent cruise speed. So my thought is if I have a torquey v8 with a big prop running much less rpm at the same speed that I would be doing about the same on fuel consumption untill I really started getting on it. That's assuming this motor gives me a much better too end and way lower cruising rpm. Maybe I'm wrong tho I've never owned one.

Fujimo lol ya I've actually been out on some really nasty stuff in this boat already when. The inlet was really turned up and I love the way it handles and how stable it is. I did have a scare one day when I just got out over the break and my throttle cable popped off. Luckily i was past the break and still in gear and I was able to put it back on safely.

The motor would cost me the same as what I'd get for my 200 for or less and is a clean motor. Yes 20" Wich right now I have a 25. I don't mind working on my motors but I don't want to be working on them all of the time or breaking down. Not sure if a 250 efi would be in the cards but you think that would be a better option for speed economy and reliability?
