Omc 300 v8 on 21 action?
I'm contemplating taking off my 200 mercury and putting on a 300 evinrude v8. I can't afford a newer 300 so I thought this might be a good combo until I can afford something newer. My question is has anyone had any experience with this combo or something similar. Will this motor be pretty reliable and will I gain alot of speed. Thanks for the help.

Has been done and ran good.
Bobby Pazos (don’t remember screen name) in Cocoa did one.
I will say that you will not pick up what you expect from the 8.
They were heavy and under powered.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Ok thank you. Maybe he will chime in with performance and reliability.

Bobby sr and jr stayed our house with us on the Suwannee this weekend. They ran an 18 action with a etec it’s very close in weight to the v8. Boat does everything great and those guys are a blast to hang with. Between the two of them they could set it up for you over the phone. My 21 paramount (same boat as 21 action) came with twin mercs but was much more civil with a single 500lb etec (same weight as a v8).
we have rigged a 20bullet with a 500+lb motor and yes you need to pay attention getting off plane. Another paramount we rigged with twin ficht motors for a buddy was very impressive and zero issues dropping off plane. The 21 action with twin mercs would not swamp if you tried. Totally different boat than the bullet and the v8 would not swamp it if you had 5 fat chicks on the cowl

Ya twin mercs would be cool just not in the cards right now. I figured if I can get some more speed and decent reliability it would be worth it. Just trying to go fast on a budget right now plus the v8s seam cool to me and you don't see boats with them everyday.

Bobby Sr had a 25’ Action w/twin Monty V-8’s that ran high 90’s.
Kevin, yep, both great guys!
One of my first trips down Bobby Jr put me and my gf up w/o even knowing us!
We did a group run and Jr took a thorn to the eye while putting his boat away and took him out that night.
There was probably 6 of us at his house.
He calls Sr and asks him to entertain us (only knowing one of us).
10 mins later he pulls up in front of Jr’s house in his Dodge RT muscle truck, does a bleach burn out, and yells, “follow me”, and takes off!
We did!
He and his wife treated us like royalty!
Spent the night looking at old pixs and listening to stories about the outlaw races at the Caribbean Club.
Had a framed pic of his 440 6 pack Super Bee and the NHRA record he set w/it.
At the time, I had an identical one.
We couldn’t get enough of the stories of him and his buds building boats in their garages and figuring out how to make their **** fast before you could buy it!

I've seen a picture of that 25 it is bad ass! I've never met them but look forward to it at one of the runs. I see they seam to be a fan of the action marine v8 combos.

It`s the design of the Bullet around the transom area that traps water and it has no place to go but over the top.
I had plans to call up Ron Hill and get the secret power pack part number. He had a 21ft Daytona that would only hit 95 with a 3.6 XP until he finally got the right pack. Then it went 121.
My deel on the V-8 fell through so that ended that.

I don`t know. I never got to that point before the trade fell through. Ron Hill at boatracingfactsforums.com would know.

I would not do it. I have a Paramount and it ran decent when it had a 200 merc. I had a 23 Checkmate with a 300 Johnson, it would run high 60s,when it ran. Fuel mileage was feet per gallon. It would suck that 50 gallon tank in a few hours. Anyway, I was going to put that motor on the Paramount. The 300 was just too temperamental an undepenable to put on a fishing boat. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot I appreciate it. I hear so many mixed opinions about them it's always good to hear some firsthand. I only have a 40 gallon tank in the boat right now so I don't think that would really work too well if it'll suck down 50 gallons in 4 hours. I feel like this little 2.5200 is pretty bad on fuel as well.
