Chine walk is common on v bottom hulls. You have to learn how to minimize it's effects. As boat rolls to the right you put left input. Usually you can put boat in slow left hand turn and chine walk will stop. This is not real convenient if you want to go straight but it should tell you what is going on and what the hull needs to settle down. Time and practice it becomes second nature.

Agree with Rock, I had a 18' Baja with a 150 that would chine walk when trimmed and jacked up (had a hydraulic jack). Looks like in the photo you have hydraulic steering, make sure its tight (no air) this will allow for short/ small steering wheel adjustments needed to drive through it. I had duel cable on the Baja and once tightened up, it became fun to drive while on the V.

Check that you are balanced side to side. I use a small level to adjust my load / passengers almost every time I'm out. Its surprising how a small imbalance can effect the drivability of my boat once on the pad.

Try a different prop. I have a 21" Renegade 4 blade and my boat walks really bad with it. Change over to a 3 blade Raker, 24" and no walk at all. Some boats like this, and others like that.

I fully agree with all the above posts on dealing with chine walk. After driving vee hulls that chine walk for the past 40 years my set-up starts with picking a relatively small diameter high rake prop- like a 3 blade Raker or my current best prop- the Trophy Plus 4 blade. Next I raise the engine as high as I can without losing prop bite or water pressure. Lastly I play with balance- usually by putting a passenger in the boat and moving him/her around in the boat. Usually just putting the passenger in the seat next to me works- so to run fast with just me in the boat I have to shift weight around or add ballast weight-like a sandbag.....and in many cases to kill the walk you have to drive a bit off course by turning slightly left.

It's on a fixed jack plate about 6" back and 4" high. No hydraulic on the plate. The motor will mount another hole higher. I might need a low water pickup though. I was running a 22 chopper on a 175 BlackMax. I replaced motor with the 200 and WOT was too high. Went with a 4 blade 24 Tempest Plus and I'm still revving too high. I have a 26 Tempest, I actually have a 22, 24, 25, 26 and 27 as well as the 22 chopper. I'll need to sell some when I get it sorted out. What about a 24 3 blade chopper? The guy I bought the motor from recommended the Tempest Plus and 6K WOT.

I cant believe this is still going on. Did it happen with the 175 hp...what's different,
those motors are almost identical...

when my boat chine walks like my wife bitches...they're both very abusive...i always get a longer boat...I ...see it in the back...now all we have to do is get rid of the wives. one of the new robots would be an exellent replacement for her, they dont talk back and can swap out a power head or change gear lube in a flash.Last edited by SUNKIST; 11-12-2020 at 09:27 AM.

I can see the future. It’s a gimbal sensor and a drive assist that will auto correct chine walk in the same fashion as traction control does for a car. This would be easy to do by today’s tech standards we just haven’t had the right techno focused boat racer to develop it yet, but it will be developed be sure of that
