Mercury Mark 15
I have had this motor for many years but just now getting around to it. I am guessing middle 50s serial #717225. Everything looks original, as far as I know, and crankcase still has lead seal. Crankshaft turns easily and motor has compression. Cowling has no cracks or missing parts. Never seen fuel hook up like this so I'll be needing one of those and I am sure I'll have a few questions along the way. Simplicity is astounding.

Hopefully you can find a tank in the back of your garage that came with the motor- the old pressure tanks are hard to find in working order along with the conversion parts. Even back in the early '60s we wouldn't touch a used Mark 15/20 Merc unless it came with a working tank and hose assembly. I chose to stick with my gravity feed "tank on powerhead" Merc KG4 and KG7 Hurricanes until I could scrounge the bucks for a used Mark 25 with a real fuel pump. I looked in my boneyard to see if I had a tank I could give you- but all I found was a few parts from an old OMC pressure tank. I have a restored KG4 in the basement that I bought as parts in a box back in the early '80s. Runs good but smokes like crazy on 24:1 oil compared to motors running at 50:1 mix.

Pressurized fuel system eh. At least that answers one question.

I come across the merc pressure tanks pretty often in large antique malls. Just found another omc tank in PA to add to my stockpile. Ill grab the next one I find and let you know

I will pick mine up from the up north shop tomorrow. That is the "cruiser" mark 15. Kind of a rare little motor.

Well I spun motor and had spark on one hole. Pulled the flywheel to clean points and after doing that I have no spark. Ordered new condensers as everything else looks to be ok.

Just a bit of lint..........a wire touchin the Grnd........The cam is on the shaft on that one rite? I used to do the Mags for the 44 motors.....play with the point setting tilll I had a spark that would jump 5/16 at the coil....at hand speed. I have.....a 4 cly Merc drone motor.... the mag comes off and is not attched to the motor....scliilar Like what was on KG7s..... only bigger.....can't get spark out of it........gotta play w/ it........

Anyone have any of the old style siamese hose for the tanks. I have a 20H with a three gallon pressure tank. The hose is shot.

Well it fired. Now it's time to address the fuel system but first I am going to undo lower and see what I can see.

Pulled lower and it's not good. Need to make a couple tools for disassembly or find a complete lower.
