Q about hydraulic steering helms

Does a Verado that has a power steering pump use the same steering helm as a non-DTS motor with a Sea Star ram?

It is my understanding that a non-powered system uses a manual pump connected to the steering wheel (Capilano Pump typically). An on-demand type booster pump like a Sea Star can be added to this type of system. To use a full power steering constant duty pump like an automobile pump or a Verado pump, requires a valve that is controlled via the steering wheel (Char Lynn valve). This type of valve is used also on large earth-moving equipment. Four hoses are required to be plumbed to the valve. Attached is an excerpt for the Verado pump installation manual.
