    Mercury block number.

Would you guys school me on my 2.5 l mercury.? I recently purchased a boat with an offshore motor that the serial numbers are not readable. The power head has been changed . The guy I bought it from said that it was originally a 260 and that it now has a 225. I looked up the block number and the best I can tell it says it's a 150. Here is the block number:. 884-858257-c1 with 4 in a square box. Any of you motor gurus out there ?

Look on the port side of the motor and you will find a letter designation. If it is a 150 it will have a BB. If it is a 225 it should read NN.

Yep. I have an EE that reads FF but if you stand on one foot and squint while eating a raw onion, you can barely make out the faint trace of the bottom of the E. Pay attention to the depth of the punches. It should paint a better picture for you depending on which end is the deep end. But...if thats a 225 its got a 7 petal front. Pretty easy to tell that. Doesnt look painted to me. Someone put a 150PM on and pass it as a 225?
