In case anyone is curious about the process used to coat the ridgeback in question, It was taken to a local industry that manufactures "Broil King" gas grills. The aluminum castings are made, powder coated and assembled there. The coating they use is specifically designed for the elements and high temp environments so it seemed like a good fit. The process consisted of a fine particle blast to remove any leftover coating and grinder artifacts. Then followed up with the industrial wash that contained an aluminum etching chemical for paint adhesion as well as a zirconium additive for oxidation inhibition. The powder is manufactured by "Pioneer Powder Coatings" and (from my experience) lasts an extremely long time. The finish on the mid turned out great! But...all of the concerns talked about here are 100% valid. There is also no way that a high output industrial process can compare to the quality of a custom shop. Even though (for the most part) its the industrial standard for coating aluminum, it doesnt get the care received from a custom shop. When a part gets hung on the line its the last time its touched until its completed. Even the powder is robotically applied so its a roll of the dice so to speak as to whether its applied fully and evenly and at the right thickness (since its an unusual shape). These are things a custom shop has 100% control over that high output industry cant compete with. Merc2.5 and i talked about it and figured why not. Worst case scenario we have to blast it again and either send it off for a custom job or wet paint. Might as well give it a full send lol! Based on the grill thats been on the roof of that company for 20+ years, im pretty confident that this paint job will last at least long enough to have no regrets about it. FYI, Those pics you posted in the link to your earlier powder coating thread are phenomenal! Those are perfect examples of what you pay for when you choose a custom shop to do your work.

Hey 1Stream, that is fantastic looking job, best gloss ive ever seen for a powder coating. its normaly a bit on the dull side. that looks like ultra high gloss finish. very nice.

Just got mid back to my house , so 1st time seeing it since coatin, looks really good no much orange peel at all but still got a decent thickness, im very happy with it and can't thank Smalltownbassin enuff for helping me out, (which we always goin back and forth with ea other)
So i would really like to slide this under the 2.5 on my bass rig (im like kid at Christmas with new parts) until I get my cmate project ready, hopefully over winter, is my goal anyway.
Has anyone ever run offshore mid on little heavier hull ? Like 1k lbs or little more? Whats it gonna do to my hole shot with no slip? Prop changes? Or just save it for the lite boat?
BTW its the rig n pic belowLast edited by Merc 2.5; 11-15-2020 at 07:19 PM.

They didn't go away from solid mounts..... the early ones had casting like stock motors......later ones had just a boss for the lower stud.

Isn't this a cut down mid? I didn't know they made a 15in ridgeback ot even a 15in 2.4L. We had to cut them back in the day.
