    Egt

3 cyl Evinrude 56 ci (70 hp) 1995 oval port

Can anyone tell me what sort of range the exhaust temp is at the top of the tuner or in the adaptor of
a typical outboard motor at say 6.000 7,000 rpm, ?
I only have a 3 cyl 56 rude, but I think exhaust temps of any motor would give me an idea of what I am after.
this is not to do with the motor itself but to do with making a custom tuner with limited access to a tig welder.

    TIA

Two strokes idle around 400-450 F

With the tongue hangin out 1050-1100 is safe. If you see 1300 and the plugs are black , it's rich and burning in the pipe . Excessively retarded timing will also put heat in the exhaust.

It's good to put a little fuel in it first, see which way it goes. You can always strip it away slowly . Same goes with timing .. don't get greedy .

Piston wash , EGT , plugs , all tell a story .. and show you a trend of what it likes ..

Probe placement has a huge effect on temps, more so on a true tuned expansion pipe. Always like to tune with piston wash and plug reads then use the EGT to monitor things. Perfect example is my snowmobile, had different opinions about where to put the probes, pipe builder, the so far way from the piston theory, etc. Long story short it is happy and safe at 1280-1290.
